Maria Fyfe

Maria Fyfe passed away earlier today, a terrible loss for both Scotland and Politics.

She was the only Labour female MP from Scotland, when she was first elected in 1987 and proudly represented Glasgow Maryhill for the following 14 years.

She led the way for so many women in politics.

In her career, she fought for equal pay for female and male manual workers, she campaigned against blacklisting of trade union members by the Economic League, she opposed the first Gulf war, she advocated for lone parent benefits and played a key role in delivering devolution Scotland, supporting the 50-50 campaign for more women MSPs in the Scottish Parliament.
