At the start of October, the Scottish Parliament will host the first Carers Parliament.
The session will involve carers from across the country and will provide a forum to highlight and discuss issues of importance to carers. The theme of this first session will be services and support for carers.
Two carers from each of the Scottish Parliament’s 73 constituencies will be invited to participate and will be drawn from a ballot. If you are interested in putting your name forward you can apply online. The deadline for applications is 21st July.
If you know of someone who would like to apply, and would prefer a paper application form, I would be happy to send one out to you. Please contact me as soon as possible to allow time for it to be returned to the freepost address by the deadline.
Across Scotland, there are over 600,000 unpaid carers who play a vital role providing essential care and support to people whose lives are seriously affected by illness or disability. The Carers Parliament is a fantastic initiative to help give carers a voice and I am delighted to see such a positive step being taken.
