Knife incident strengthens calls for CCTV

Last week, there was  a spate of attempted robberies involving knives in the Fountainbridge and Dalry areas of Edinburgh.

In one incident, a masked man robbed a shop in Dundee Street after confronting the shopkeeper with a six-inch blade.  I’ve written before on this blog about the Telfer Subway in the same area which has seen alarming cases of antisocial behaviour over the years.  Community Safety issues need to be addressed now before these places become no go areas.

This is horrifying news for people living and working in these areas. It is totally unacceptable that people are being threatened and robbed in their own streets. Everyone has a right to feel safe in their community and it is evident from this that we need more community safety initiatives. CCTV is a necessary option.
