At the start of next week, people will gather in Glasgow at an event to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.
The annual day of remembrance is held on 27 January each year and was chosen as it marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz in 1945.
Holocaust Memorial Day provides the opportunity for us all to remember the millions of people who were murdered during the Holocaust and in subsequent genocides around the world.
The brutality of the persecution witnessed during the Holocaust and more recently in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur sends a clear message on the dangers of discrimination and a warning of the need to be vigilant against it.
The theme of this year’s event is ‘Communities Together: Build a Bridge’. The message highlights the need to learn from past experiences as well as the importance of celebrating difference and promoting respect. Through this, the campaign hopes to inspire people to create a safer, better future.
